Are you a blog all-star? Find out here!
SEO Book defines link bait as:
The art of targeting, creating, and formatting information that provokes the target audience to point high quality links at your site. Many link baiting techniques are targeted at social media and bloggers.
So, is linkbait wrong?
Speaking from a truly whitehat approach to SEO, the idea of linkbait is wrong, only if the intention of providing the product or service is purely for linking purposes. If you are providing the tool or idea to get links from other sites, that is not white hat, but if your intent is to provide something useful to your users, then this is white hat all the way. If you would still provide it, regardless if a link was given, then you are on the right track.
My blog ranked a “C” because I don’t get links from other blogs. My intent is not for links, I don’t make any money or get any gain from my blog other than to document my thoughts and ideas. If you, the reader, find it interesting or enlightening, then I have accomplished more than I have expected. If you link to my posts or my blog, then thank you. If not, I will keep on, keepin’ on. I do this for me! If I did it for any other reason, then I would be wrong.
