Blogger Supports Custom Domains

by pittfall on January 7, 2007

Blogger Buzz offers exciting news for blogs that are part of Google’s Blogger.com:

“The new version of Blogger now supports using a custom domain for serving your blog. If you already own a domain named, say, mysite.com and want your blog to be served at that address instead of at a blogspot.com address, we can host your blog on that domain for you — for free. Your old Blog*Spot address will forward to your new custom domain, so the switch will be seamless for your readers.”

This is a great addition for all of the people that want to publish on a unique domain without having to be on blogspot URL.

You can host the new domain yourself with the blogger application, using FTP, but a few claimed advantages exist to keeping your blog on blogger:

  • Simpler to set up.
  • Fast publishing.
  • Drag-and-drop template editing.
  • Access control.
