Google is not the Antichrist, or Is It? A Top 10 List

by pittfall on December 19, 2006

In the SEO community, typically there are two types of people, those who love Google and those who hate Google. It is kind of like the Yankees (Cubs fan here), Microsoft and AOL, you either love ‘em or hate ‘em.

So that leads to the two great questions:

1. Why do you hate Google so much?
and
2. Why do you love Google so much?

Let’s address each of them.

Why is Google so great? (let’s do a top ten)
10. Google provides more information to users and professionals.
9. Google provides a lot of great tools (Gmail, Reader, Search)
8. Google is cool
7. Google doesn’t charge users
6. Google provides what people are looking for (marketers and searchers)
5. Google is for everyone, not just techies
4. Everyone talks about Google
3. Google makes it easy for everyone
2. Google likes feedback
and the number one reason that people love Google (especially website owners):
1. Google drives more traffic than any other search engine

Why is Google so bad?
10. Google is too simple
9. Google is not a portal (yet)
8. Google is boring
7. Google is always looking for money from advertisers
6. Google has the most market-share
5. Google ranks info sites higher than everyone else
4. Everyone talks about Google
3. Google is all about the user not the website owner
2. Google makes it difficult for SEOs
and the number one reason that people hate Google (especially website owners):
1. It’s hard to rank high in organic search on Google

Google will always be relevant, as long as users are still using it for their online search needs. Just like Internet Explorer, love it or hate it, but if you want to reach the most users on the net, you can’t dismiss it.

What are your thoughts?
