New Features from MyBlogLog

MyBlogLog tags
MyBlogLog is a portal for social networking around blogs. Since Yahoo purchased them earlier this year, not many visible changes have happened, but recently Yahoo announced that they will be focusing more attention on building MyBlogLog to be a better portal and possibly re-branding them.

The first major addition to what MyBlogLog is offering has happened:
Tagging

Eric posted more information:

Shortly after joining Yahoo!, the MyBlogLog team was introduced to a cool little internal app called Tagsona. Created by Cameron Marlow at Yahoo Research Berkeley (YRB), it’s an exceptionally polished tool for tagging co-workers and it has become the default place for finding Yahoo!s* and learning more about them. I’ve heard the term “indispensable” used on more than one occasion. It has made life easier and we love it. Last week we decided to “liberate” Tagsona for our own ends. Okay, we shamelessly ripped it off. Regardless, we’ve had a blast building it into MyBlogLog and it’s been a riot tagging each other and our sites this week. Now it’s your turn.

Shortly after, Robyn Tippins devoted a post about what tagging is and how to use it to find new blogs on particular topics within the MyBlogLog arena:

Tags are used to classify and identify an item. The difference in a typical directory classification though, is that tags are user-created, meaning YOU decide who gets grouped in whichever way suits you. You might ‘tag’ MyBlogLog as cool, social, blogs and friends. Or, you might tag it something less flattering. Sure, it would sadden us, but the tags you use to classify items are entirely up to you. As more people tag an item with the same word, the tag will grow larger and bolder. When you see a giant tag, you can be sure that the word is in some way relevant to the item it is being used to describe.

Kudos to the MyBlogLog team. If you would like to see how it all works (even become a member of my community), you can check out the SEOPittfall community page.

I wish that MBL would create a bulletin system or something so you can mass mail your contacts. That would be very useful.
