Jeez, its only been 10 years and Google are already one of the most loved brands in the world! It took Coca-cola and McDonald's years to achieve.

The maybe a massive company but you have to admire their liberal ethos and dedication to providing an unparalleled service.

I wish "Anatomy of a search engine" was my thesis!

@Danish:Judging by the rate at which Google is growing, it is extremely difficult for new search engine to beat them. In the event that an innovative search engine pops up, I am sure Google will either buy the search engine itself or employ the brains behind it. You will notice that of late Google is buying a lot of Internet startups.I foresee that this trend will continue and Google will become bigger and bigger.

Good stuff Stephen. If you've seen a product launch timeline, it would be interesting to see how Google has veered away from it's core brand over time and what themes we can pull out of Google's product failures.

And what an amazing 10 years it's been. Earlier this year, Millward Brown ranked Google's brand the most valuable brand in the world.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/apr/21/googlethemedia.digitalmedia
http://www.brandz.com/upload/BrandZ-2008-RankingReport.pdf

Of course, Millward Brown's methodology is but one of many ways to estimate a brand's value.

But what does the Google brand actually mean?
To me, it means quick, easy access to information.
From a marketing point of view, it means to me: measurable, highly-targeted. and big reach.

Take any of these attributes away, and it's not *really* Google.

Good to see that Google dropped the exclamation mark. Yahoo really should do this. It's strange to imagine what the internet would be like without Google...

@Kimberly Bock: Glad to be of service.

I was thinking of doing a drawn out timeline of events and services, but I am sure there will be a lot of hoopla around this coming. As far as the new image delivery, why wouldn't they want to do it themselves? It gives them the ability to do more.
