The Marketing in SEO

by pittfall on January 15, 2007

I have covered the three most important aspect of organic search results:

  • Link Popularity
  • Content
  • Age
  • I have also said that Search Engine Optimization is a function of Marketing (not IT).

The other important aspect that I follow and live by, focus on the user and the search engines will follow! Google’s Webmaster Central has even posted about this topic.

So, how do you get the search engines to index your site without practicing anything that would be considered a black hat techniques?

    1. Submit to the major engines directly. I know, if you have been in the SEO community or have been researching search engine optimization techniques, you have probably heard that submitting to the engines directly will not help your efforts. To which I respond, “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!”

    2. Submit to smaller engines. I would suggest ISEDN.

    3. Submit to major directories. I know, DMOZ can be a pain, no responses or interaction of any sort. You can also try the Yahoo! Directory if you have a couple hundred dollars a year, or are willing to wait a couple of months for a response (non-commercial sites only).

    4. Submit to niche engines and directories. What you couldn’t find at ISEDN, find in the search engines. Try a couple of queries like “niche directory”, “niche search engine” (replacing niche with your vertical or major topic of your website).

    5. Sign up for some free tools available from the engines themselves.
