Wall Street Journal – Blogs are Insignificant
Joseph Rago, an assistant editorial features editor at the Wall Street Journal, recently wrote:
“The blogs are not as significant as their self-endeared curators would like to think. Journalism requires journalists, who are at least fitfully confronting the digital age. The bloggers, for their part, produce minimal reportage. Instead, they ride along with the MSM like remora fish on the bellies of sharks, picking at the scraps.”
from The Blog Mob “Written by fools to be read by imbeciles.”
Unlike Time Magazine, who recently praised the efforts of everyone participating in the internet’s social scene, awarding these efforts with the 2006 Time Person of the Year.
Blogs, MySpace, Facebook, YouTube and others have dramatically affected the media market. Could this lashing be a result of the frustrations that an accomplished writer, even an editor of a world renowned newspaper, has difficulties finding readers and people with no formal education in the field have more people that want to hear what they have to say?
I am not an English major, nor have I ever considered myself a wonderful writer, however, I have information that may be important. I have expertise in a field and I share some of my opinions and experiences for others to take for their own purpose. I also write in a forum that is accessible and welcome feedback from those who agree and those who disagree. I am not infallible, nor have I ever tried to make others think that. However, I am not insignificant, neither are those who want to share their thought, opinions or feelings through a blog, video or website and would never consider them or call them insignificant. I am sorry that you cannot control the thoughts or feelings of others, nor can you silence them.
Thank you Mr. Rago, you have opened my eyes to the fact that we have not totally removed ignorance from our society.
Because of Mr. Rago’s feelings, I have decided that my insignificant blog will not link to this article.
