What’s your IBLP?

Eric Ward is widely considered “The Link Guru.” And yes, by more than just me!

He recently wrote about IBLP. What is IBLP is your first question, right? IBLP is In Bound Link Profile. In other words, how do people normally link to your site.

In Bound Link Profile (IBLP) – where do you get your links?

  • Are they from trusted sites?
  • Are they from “suspicious” sites?
  • Are they from reciprocal sites?
  • Are they from reputable sites?
  • Are they from relevant sites?
  • These are all important questions when developing a link building program and extremely important in developing a quality SEO program.

    Three Recommendations
Let me offer three recommendations: For sites that are already engaged in artificial linking activities, either remove those links or accept that your site’s ranking is on borrowed time. When seeking links, don’t rely on reciprocal links as your only linking tactic. 100% link reciprocity looks mighty suspicious, that is, artificial. If you have link-worthy content, seek links for that content from known trusted sources. What’s a trusted source? Put yourself in Google’s shoes. Trusted sources will vary depending on the subject matter.

Another great resource is Matt Cutts (Google Engineer)

As a rule, Google tries to find pages that are both reputable and relevant. If two pages appear to have roughly the same amount of information matching a given query, we’ll usually try to pick the page that more trusted websites have chosen to link to…

Good rankings still come down to a couple of basic reasons:

  • Is your site relevantent?
  • Why should the engines trust you?
  • What makes your site so great?
  • Mike Grehan says… loosely translated
People always ask me, why don’t I rank higher, I should be #1? and I reply, ‘Why the hell should you?!

So, why should you rank higher than you are? Build a better website, focus on the user, stop fooling yourself, stop trying to fool the search engines and you will!

    Good Luck!
