Yahoo! Ends Paid Inclusion

by pittfall on January 9, 2010

yahoo!Back in October, Yahoo! announced that by the end of 2009 Search Submit Pro’s Paid Inclusion would be discontinued causing some alarm by sites using the service and many of us in the search industry wondered how it would impact the search results.

Those of us that managed SSP feeds wondered what would happen after the announcement of the search agreement between Microsoft and Yahoo in July that was finalized last month.

Well, it did not end on December 31st, however, it actually gave up the ghost earlier this week. I will be analyzing the impact of the change from a ranking perspective for my clients, so if you are seeing major changes with Yahoo! rankings it might be SSP. The other interesting game changer will come when Bing starts delivering Yahoo’s results.

Have you seen any changes with Yahoo rankings? Feel free to share.

This is a strange thing to happen. Last year they shut down the geocities part. And now at the start of the year they are closing down the Paid Inclusions. This paid inclusions closure is good for the community as a whole but from the perspective of Yahoo what does this signify? – Is Yahoo planning to close down? We all know that Microsoft’s been eyeing on purchasing Yahoo. Any plans behind the curtains?

For myself it is an advantage, I more use yahoo than google this year because there are more good searches in Yahoo compare to the latter. Moreover, i do not agree if they close the site explorer.

I was amazed with the decision!
I tried to advertise last week and it didn’t let me. I can imagine why they are doing this.

It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, maybe they are closing it because of the lack of transparency to the end user?

Hi
I don’t know about paid submissions, but i can tell you that i have noticed links disappearing from sites in site explorer lately. Could be a glitch in the system or the focus of the SERP’s have shifted?

Great post!

I will be very keen to take a look at your findings once you present them to us. I am guessing that google will decrease the value of a link being listed by Yahoo if the inclusion price drops away.

By paying the fee in the first place shows that you are a pretty serious, therefore giving your site more kudo points for PR.
