Yellowbot.com – Social Networking and Local Search

Yellowbot alpha
Yellowbot is live.

Yellowbot in it’s simplest form is an online directory similar to the old yellow pages book that is delivered to your door on a yearly basis. But if you think that it is just a directory of a huge database of business listings with names, addresses, phone numbers, website address and such, you have missed the boat!

OK, what is it all about? Well, you can read their wonderfully (scripted, sarcastic and funny) dialog of what Yellowbot is about, but there is still more to come over the next few months.

So, what do they offer now?

  • Local Search
  • Advanced Search Filters
  • Tagging
  • Ratings and Reviews
  • Recommendations
  • Business Details
  • Uploaded Pictures
  • MyAccount Page
  • Blog
  • Forum
  • Basically, it is a database of information related to local brick and mortar businesses and such. It offers the ability for user written content, ratings, recommendations, pictures and tagging. It also integrates Google Maps to give you directions for your search. The networking aspect is the ability to share your content with others through (planned) RSS and API features.

This is a great new tool for SEOs looking to get inbound links, exposure and buzz for people working on marketing a physical location and website. It integrates widgets and other Web 2.0 features.

If you haven’t heard about it, check it out and let me know what you think.
